Veeam 7 Proxy server question

Post by gmackilligan »

I need to create a proxy server at two sites to backup some Windows 2012 Hyper-V VMs, that are on a Windows 2012 Hyper-V cluster with CSVs.
The customer has some old DL380 G5’s which we would like to use, but the G5 is not certified to run Win 2012.

Question:
If I install Windows 2008 R2 on the G5s, could I use them as Veeam 7 proxy servers to back up the above VMs?
The remote site proxy server will be iSCSI connected to a storage array, to access a LUN sitting on some RAID 6 1TB SATA disks.

The off-host proxy server should run the same version of operating system, as primary server does. That being said, if your primary host runs Windows Server 2012, the off-host proxy should run Windows Server 2012, as well.

Thanks.
