Lots of duplicate replica folders?

Post by googlemad »

Using the Datastore Browser in vSphere client I have noticed the replica jobs seem to be creating an awful amount of duplicate folders for the replicas on the SAN,

Many of them have a handful of small files in.

We recently changed the Backup Repository to go to this SAN, could this be the reason?

What Veeam B&R version are you using? Are the new folders created during each replication job run? Could this be something similar to this issue?

Same problem here, on two of my customers since v7 (R2a) migration.

Sometimes the replication process create a lot of empty replica folder and the replica job fail (replica VM already exist) => workaround, delete the replicated VM and all empty folders.

This is definitely not expected. Can you recall any details about your VI when this happens? Probably source VM migration? Re-registration?

[MERGED] (ID 675983) Replication Job, VMs duplicated.

Post by hmontalvo »

(ID 675983)
Dear Veeam Users, I am using replication job (datastore feature) but I have a problem, the Job create duplicate VMs_replica.
Vsphere Cluster has 2 ESX and 2 Datastores (Datastore_Source & Datastore_Replica). I am trying to replicate each VMs of one datastore to other one, but in the same Vsphere Cluster. In the Job Replication Settings, I have selected "datastore" (Virtual Machine to replicate -> Type -> Datastore) and Destination an ESX and the Datastore_Replica.
After that Job runs two or three times, appear duplicated machines (ej. Vm1_replica, Vm1_replica_replica, Vm1_replica_replica_replica).
Please, can anyone help me to know if something is wrong in my settings?
Thanks

Hi Hector,

Do you re-register or VMotion source VMs used for replication jobs? Do you have a vCenter Server added to the backup console?

Thanks!

Not actually, but in Veeam's Console I have added an Vcenter, in this Vcenter each ESXi has 2 datastores, Sources and Replicas. The replica Job basically makes replicas of all the Virtual Machines, using the feature: Add Storage.
I add the LUN source in the ESX1, and the destination is configured to the ESX2 LUN Replicas (into same Vcenter).
I dont know if something is wrong or my configuration is not supported.

Thanks

Your setup is fine. Can you please tell me if you do anything with target VMs? Power them on? Also I would recommend to check for moref ID of each VM when replication job creates a duplicate folder. Our support team can assist you with findings these moref IDs in the debug logs.

Same issue here Veeam V8 . I am just going to delete and recreate the replica. If the issue continues, I will open a ticket.

Jay, I would recommend sending latest logs (at the moment when new folder has been created) to our technical team anyway, so we could find out why it is happening in your case. Thanks!

I recreated the job shortly after posting and have not had any issues.

Ok, keep an eye on these jobs, and if you happen to have the same behavior, then we need to check what is going on with jobs configuration.

[MERGED] Replication

Post by jhaines »

Hi,

Can someone tell me why Veeam replication when replicating to my remote site is creating lots of folders for each server and putting a number at the end? for example myserver_replica_15?

I am only setting to have 7 versions but some servers have folders from myserver_replica_1 to myserver_replica_25

Can any of these folders be deleted?

Regards
Julian

Julian, unless this thread gives you some hints, please contact technical support to verify the reasons of this behavior.
