Repository Size Best Practices

Post by andresbarcenas »

Hello,

Is there a best practices documentation on Repository Sizes? I have a very interesting mixture of VMDK sizes from 100GB to 4TB and right now I have around 3 backup repos that are 14TB each. I was wondering if creating one huge repository is a good thing to do?

Hi Andres, there are no limits for backup repository, so you can safely combine your existing repository servers. Thanks!

Are you talking here about "source" disks? Or about using those disks for the said repositories?

Such source disk mixture should be fine, just group your VMs based on the OS or their role in the job and point these jobs to a single repository.

You need to think about how you format the volume. Also remember to consider how the storage is configured. Raid type, stripe size etc. Sometimes one model doesn't work best for everything.
