Just spin up Exchange from the required backup in a virtual lab, connect to it with Outlook, and copy public folder content into PST file. Then import this data back into production Exchange (again, via Outlook). Thanks.

I'm in the same boat. I nned to restore a company calendar in a public folder.
It looks like I need to restore the exchange server in a lab, alond with a DC and a client machine that has outlook to accomplish this.
My problem is that all of my DC's are physical servers and have backups using other means.
Any sugestions???

Hello Scott,

You need to have a virtual instance of DC running in your virtual lab. Some workarounds exist, please refer to the following topics:

They are not public folders. They are user folders that users are creating inside their outlook 2010.
Thanks

Tan, consider using Veeam Explorer for Exchange (user guide p.303), powerful Veeam B&R add-on allowing for granular Exchange item-level recovery.

Actually, it doesn't. By now, Exchange 2010 is the only supported version.

Hope this helps.
Thanks.

I believe the procedure should be the same.

I got confirming from Veeam tech support that Veeam explorer won't support exchange 2007, I don't see how to restore outlook folders.
Thanks

I think there must have been a slight misunderstanding.

Veeam Exchange Explorer is a free tool, which allows you to browse conveniently Microsoft Exchange database files and restore necessary items, such as folders, mailboxes, messages, tasks, contacts and so on. Veeam Exchange Explorer supports only 2010 version of Exchange server and it can’t be implemented in your particular case.

However, as it’s described above, you can start your Exchange from the required backup file in a virtual lab, then, connect to it by the means of Outlook, and copy necessary folders into PST file. After that, this file should be imported into production Exchange, again via Outlook. That’s all.

Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Hi,

I have been trying this method as well and have managed to "spin up" the exchange server in a sure backup job and export the required data to a pst file.
I cannot however get the pst file out of the lab environment.

I do not have internet access from the Lab otherwise I could get the file out. I have even exported the running vm and merged the vhdx and avhdx files but the pst I exported is not there...

Any advice would be appreciated.

You can enable Internet access from within the virtual lab while configuring it.
