Sharepoint Recovery question

Hi i want to verify that using sharepoint explorer to restore sharepoint items in Veeam 8 only allows content restoration correct?
Is there any chance of that changing to allow full site restoration?

Currently it is only possible to perform item/object restore and no full sites.

I thought about restoring full site collections by attaching the according DB to SharePoint DatabaseServer directly from backup without restoring it.
Then this DB might be attached to SharePoint and a Move-SPSite should be possible.
Do you think this would work?
