Internet access from inside Virtual Lab?

Post by AlbMin »

Hello,

B&R 6.5. I test SureBackup and all works fine. The only thing I´m unable to do, is to configure Internet access for a VM inside the Virtual Lab.
I know this links http://forums.veeam.com/viewtopic.php?f ... net#p40139
http://www.veeam.com/kb_articles.html/K ... t%20access

First I tried this entries:
vlabProxyEnabled=1 (not vlabProxyEnable, but I´ve tried this also)
VLabProxyPortHTTP=3128
VLabProxyServer=10.0.4.51

10.0.4.51 is the proxy in my production network. No authentification is required.
This proxy has the port 3128.
In the Virtual Lab VM (Windows XP) I gave the Internet Explorer the Proxy IP 10.0.9.10 (that´s the Virtual Lab IP from the ProxyAppliance) and the port 3128.
It doesen´t work.

Next I tried only this entries
vlabProxyEnabled=1
VLabProxyPortHTTP=3128
and I give the ProxyAppliance Internet Access. From the ProxyAppliance for example I can ping http://www.heise.de. But it´s the same: I haven´t Internet Access from the Virtual Lab VM.

But it works to connect from the Virtual Lab VM to the IP from the Virtual Lab ProxyAppliance (10.0.9.10) with port 3128 (for example "telnet 10.0.9.10 3128"). Without the above registry entries this doesn´t work.
So the first step (connect to ProxyAppliance) seems OK.

And, by the way, I haven´t forgot this steps:
Restart Veeam Backup UI
Create NEW virtual lab

I think, I do something wrong, but what?

Please help me
Thanks
AlbMin

The first thing that comes to my mind: the port value must be in hex, so did you specify 00000c38 for port 3128 (just to be sure as you have specified it in dec in your post)? Everything else looks correct, so if this is not the case, please contact technical support so they could review you setup more closely via webex session.

It´s a 32Bit DWord Value you can switch between hex- and dec-view.
hex=c38
dec=3128
That should be okay.

I´ve found the problem. The manuals in both links are wrong. The second Registry-Key VLabProxyPortHTTP is not correct. As I´ve seen in the SureBackupJob-Logfile, the corret Key ist VLabProxyHTTPPort. With this key, all works fine.

Thanks for pointing that out! We'll confirm this locally and update the links.

I would like to add for 64 bit OS install of Version 6.5 that the same registry entries needs to be added to the Wow6432Node:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\VeeaM\Veeam Backup and Replication\SureBackup]
REG_DWORD vlabProxyEnabled = 1
REG_DWORD vLabProxyHTTPPort = 0x00001f99 (8089 in this example)
REG_SZ vlabProxyServer = YourServerName.Domain.com
