Replication to DR Site what mode is being used?

I have setup a test replication from my local ESXi (vcenter) host to a DR Site ESXi Host.
Local ESXi disks are local SAN disks and the DR ESXi host has local disks only.
Veeam server installed as VM on local ESXi SAN
Veeam Proxy install as VM on DR ESXi Host.
When I run the replication job I see the veeam server hot-add's the local SAN disks of the source VM
but I dont see the proxy server hot-adding the disks on the DR site. The proxy server is set to Applicance mode
but how can a tell what mode is being used ????

Conrad, you can check the processing mode being used selecting the particular VM to the left in the Realtime Statistics window available on the job's shortcut menu. Thanks.

Proxy setting is automatic. What are the tests to determine the best for performance.

It should select SAN mode. Both the VM and veeam server have direct access to SAN ? or select applance mode (hot add disks) but selected nbd (network) seems the autoselect isn't working ?

You have to change this in the proxy settings..

Right-click the proxy>manual selection>Direct SAN

direct san mode fails, but I did get HOT ADD working. Added a 100MB SCSI Disk to the veeam server using the varavirtual SCSI Controller. I need to do more testing or read more docs on what conditions are needed for direct san mode to work.

Direct SAN mode is if your VMs are on a SAN, Fibre Channel or iSCSI. You need to present the LUNs to the Veeam box or the proxies that will back up your VMs.

As I found out our SAN is direct attached SAS so I guess not really SAN ? While all our ESXi servers see the unit but from the Guest OS level it is not present. I will stick to hot add

sounds like is not possible doing san mode with SAS storage.

Well...it might still be possible to use SAN mode with SAS storages, see this link for more details: http://jpaul.me/?p=1376

On the other hand, Virtual Appliance mode is also a good choice.

Hi everybody,
On the "transport modes" chapter of the user guide I only find references to FC and iSCSI SAN in order to do a Direct SAN Access.
What about SAN storage shared between the ESX Hosts through SAS controller (so as HP P2000sa or something) ?
