Backing Up AWS EC2 Instances with Veeam On-Prem: Architecture and Storage Considerations

Post by mporliod »

I’m currently using Veeam Enterprise on-premises and I need to back up some virtual machines running on AWS (EC2 – Elastic Compute Cloud instances).
I’d like to understand whether a specific architecture needs to be implemented within AWS to handle these backups.
Is it possible to do this directly with my current on-prem installation?
If so, would you recommend storing the EC2 backups in an S3 bucket, or is it better to centralize them locally?
In my opinion, bringing those backups back on-prem doesn’t make much sense

Hello,

You can use the Veeam Backup for AWS to protect those machines. You will need to deploy the appliance on AWS, and then you can create Snapshots and Cloud Native image-level backups.

Or, you can use Veeam Agent on VBR to backup those VMs as Cloud Machines.

Both ways support a repository on AWS using an S3 bucket.
