Feature Request: Workers with GP3 root volumes
We are a VEEAM customer (2+ years now), with 413 workloads in AWS across (EC2,RDS,EFS) and we have moved all of our AWS fleet to GP3 for cost reduction with VBA workers the last remaining hurdle. We have some workers that are turned on for 5 days to archive backups from S3 to Glacier as we have 30+TB SAP server instances and the health checks also take a long time so the cost is not insignificant staying on GP2. Please make root volumes (Well, all volumes) for workers GP3 by default. Many thanks in advance.

Hi,
We have this on our roadmap for a future release however, you can already change this in the current version by contacting support who can provide you with a configuration key.
Thanks!

Re: Feature Request: Workers with GP3 root volumes
FYI, Response from LVL 2 Veeam support:
Thank you for your e-mail. I checked with our RND team and confirmed that, unfortunately, there is no option or configuration key in Veeam Backup for AWS v6/6a that can change the Worker's root volume type from gp2 to gp3. That said, it will be addressed in the future versions of Veeam Backup for AWS.
I hope for your understanding. Please let me know if you need additional assistance.

Hi Markus,
I just verified this internally and support is correct. I misunderstood the initial request but we do have this planned for an upcoming release to use gp3.

Re: Feature Request: Workers with GP3 root volumes
Hey there! I'm in a quite similar situation as you. We've also been with VEEAM for a while and recently began optimizing our costs, especially on AWS. I totally get the transition from GP2 to GP3 for cost savings – it makes a huge difference, especially with large-scale operations like yours. Out of curiosity, how smooth was your migration for most of your AWS resources to GP3? Also, have you noticed any performance changes (even if minimal) after the transition? Thanks for sharing your insights! Looking forward to your response.

Re: Feature Request: Workers with GP3 root volumes
Hi there
we were able to migrate to GP3 rather easily, even though it took quite some time to do for 350+ instances. Performance wise, a lot of volumes were deployed with too high IOPS and Throughput. We then went through a right spec'ing of the volumes and have seen some savings there. Performance seems great for GP3. Have a great day ahead.
