Recovering a table from RDS or EC2 instance backup

Post by ibarizz »

Hello,

Well basically what the title says. At this very moment, is it possible to recover a table from a database placed in an EC2 instance? Just checked that there is a possibility to enable application-aware processing for EC2 policies. Does that allow me to restore a SQL item?

And how about the case for RDS Policies? Is that possible to restore a table?
Couldn't find more in Veeam's documentation other than DynamoDB.

If it's not allowed atm, will it be a feature in the future?
Thank you!

EDIT:
Another question that came up after posting this. So far after createing a RDS Policy the following warnings appear:

Image

RDS backup to a repository is only supported for PostgreSQL.
RDS backup is only supported for appliances managed by Veeam Backup & Replication.

So according to this, the only way to backup a RDS instance as an image-level backup to a repository is by using the integration with VBR? And other database engines are not supported for RDS backup such us SQL Server, MySQL... Is that right?

Thank you once again.

Hi,

This is currently not possible. If you have an EC2 instance, you can use native scripts using application-aware processing backups and do restores using native tools. Another option could be using the Veeam Agent for Windows, which supports transaction log backup.

For RDS, we support full database restores for Postgres.

We do plan to enhance this for future releases but it's too soon for an exact ETA on that.

Hello Nielsen.
For RDS, full database restores with image level backups is only allowed for postgres? How about SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, etc.?
If the answer is yes, in case we have RDS instances with SQL Server, MySQL or Oracle, only snapshot-level backup is allowed?

Thank you!

Yes, currently only Postgres is supported. Others are on our roadmap without an ETA but, for now, you can use snapshot-level protection.
