Failed to perform internal backup (SQLEXPRESS): At least one full database backup must be performed

Post by ramir050 »

Hello Team,

Currently I have the next issue with our transaction logs

Failed to perform internal backup (SQLEXPRESS\database name): At least one full database backup must be performed before transaction log backup can be enabled.

We are taking the transaction logs with veeam and from SQL we are using a SQL express edition. There is not any sql agent installed on the server and there are just a few native backup that were launched on demand. However, Veeam is showing this error.

Additionally, in SQL we have discovered that in some hours of the day, the database is changing between FULL and SIMPLE Recovery mode when veeam is trying to take the transaction logs. Veeam is the only software trying to backup the DB. We have opened the next case 07144554.

Hi Alexis and Welcome to Veeam R&D Forums!

If you're using an image-level job with T-log backups enabled, please try a manual full backup on the parent job. If it's about our plug-in for Microsoft SQL Server, then be aware that it does not support Express edition.

Also, please keep in mind that if you process transaction logs by native SQL tools, make sure that our job works in Copy-Only mode to preserve LSN and the native backup chain consistency.

Thanks!
