Feature Request - Skip vCenter Host Licensing validation with for SAP Backint Backups

Post by abdennour.labani »

Dear all,

I submitted an internal feature request under Case #07553140 (Parent Case: #07552155), Regarding VBR Behaviour Validating Host licensing with vCenter when executing SAP Backint Backups via Plug-in. This leads to SAP Backint backups failures when vCenter is offline/unreachable, which adds complexity to the backup process. the feature request is about skipping the licensing validation process so backups would not fail,
it is also worth mentioning that if vCenter is not available for an extended period of time which can happen sometimes & backups are failing as consequence. The log area volume (/hana/log) will quickly accumulate until the database craches.

I'm reaching out to closely ask R&D Team for this feature request progress if that is possible,

Thanks, Regards,
PetrM

Hi Abdennour and Welcome to Veeam R&D Forums!

I believe that the license validation should remain in place but be improved to avoid failure in the event of vCenter unavailability. I will discuss this issue with my colleagues in the QA department and will update the topic once I hear back from them.

Thanks!

Hi Petr,

Thanks for your reply, I totally agree, avoiding failure while still keeping the validation process is the best approach,
Please keep me posted on this, I will focus on keeping vCenter online as much as possible for the time being,

@abdennour.labani do you have socket or instance licensing?

Thanks!

Hello,

@abdennour.labani one more question: If you open the License Information window, how many free instances do you see there? It looks like the issue occurs because we cannot validate the license due to vCenter unavailability, and any other free instances (if there are any) had been taken by other jobs before the plug-in job was started.

Thanks!

Hi Petr,

Looking instances under liceses it says 6 (0 used), and it's been like that for a while, I don't think we have jobs that consume instances.

Hello,

If there were free instances, and our job did not use it, then I would like to ask you to reopen the support case, and ask our engineers to find the explanation in debug logs. Also, please share ID of a new support case.

Thanks!

Hello,
for future readers: only for socket licenses, the VCenter must be available during backup of database plugins. We have an open feature request for improvement for this topic. Free licenses are not used.

Best regards
Hannes
