Hi,
We are experiencing an issue with Oracle RMAN enterprise plugin performance, we've been using VBR to backup our VMs and SQL (with application aware) for years without problem, but we want to migrate from other backup vendor to Veeam our Oracle databases but we are experiencing very bad performance that makes almost impossible to backup it. We have opened SR #06390105 but right now we don't have any conclusion and I have several questions.
Just to summarize our environment, we have a single VBR server with several proxies and gateways, we've deployed 3 servers as gateway for Oracle repository, those are vms with 8cpu and 16gb ram and our backend is a StoreOnce's catalyst store.
With no other backups or operations running, the best performance that we get is about 120MB/s, with a few 6TB databases it takes too much time to make a full backup, at some times it takes days to complete it. In our investigation it look like the plugin is not balancing jobs between gateways and only one gateway is used. Could anyone confirm is this is an expected behaviour? In the support case the engineer request us to test performance with only 1 gateway
Just in case, in our troubleshooting we configured HPE's Catalyst RMAN plugin in one of the database's servers and connection to the same store once, with this plugin performance exceeded 1GB/s and full backup jobs completes in less than 3h for the biggest databases. With this test we think that our perfomance problem is related with gateways, any thought or recomendation setting up them correctly to perform in Enterprise plugin backups?
Best regards
Iker

Re: Oracle RMAN plugin poor performace
Hello Iker,
I believe you should continue the investigation with our support department. It's difficult to say what might cause the issue without seeing the debug logs and understanding the "bottleneck". The only thing I can say is that what you describe does not look like a known issue.
Also, I asked our support team to prioritize this case and try to find out the root cause based on the logs analysis. Anyway, I suggest running all the tests proposed by our support engineer, it will help us to isolate the issue and narrow down the scope of potential reasons.
Thanks!

HI Anand,
Could you please also open a support case and share case ID over here? We need to be sure that the performance issue in your environment has the same root case as the problem mentioned above.
Thanks!
