PostgreSQL 11 backup

Post by matteu »

Hello,

1) I have a customer with an application with PostgreSQL v11.6 on Debian 11 and I would like to know if I can use application aware processing on it to have a consistent backup ?

I don't want necessary to use Veeam Explorer because I saw only PostgreSQL v 12+ are supported but would like to be sure the backup for the VM it self will be OK and I can restore it safely

2) I did SQL several time and I know the DB need to be in bulk / full mode to generate logs but for Postgre I see about WAL. Does all Postgres are WAL by default or do I need to check it ?

Thanks for your help

Hi matteu,

1. Lowest version of Postgres Veeam supports for Guest Processing is PostgresSQL 12, so best to use pre-freeze / post-thaw scripts to assist here (probably do pg_dump or disable the services, whichever is more applicable for your client), or if applicable for the client, upgrade Postgres to get guest processing support.

2. As far as I know, Postgres always generates WAL, so it's not something that needs to be checked like with MSSQL
