VBR, backing up VM#1 (Domain Controller) + VM#2 (Exchange)

Post by Hariseldon1 »

I am configuring Veema Backup & Replication (v11 + all-the-'v11'-vbr-updates) community edition to backup two of my VMs:

VM #1 = My only Domain Controller (Server 2012 R2)
VM #2 = My only Exchange Server (Exhange 2010 SP3 RU32)

I comprehend these backup jobs need to be "application aware"
I comprehend the "application aware" requirement includes credentials with "Local Users and Groups" > "Administrators" Group permissions

I created a new AD User Account special for VBR to use.
On VM#2 (Exchange) I manually added this new AD User Account to "Local Users and Groups" > "Administrators" Group
On VM#1 (DC) as you expect there are no "Local Users and Groups"... in this case (being locally on the single Domain Controller VM) do I add this special AD User Account this way instead:
"Active Directory Users and Computers" > Expand Domain > Select 'Builtin' OU > Select "Administrators"

Thanks!

P.S.: is anyone aware of any online source for documented samples of configuring VBR 'Application Aware' backups for common scenarios like this (e.g., screenshots for backing up 'domain controller, screenshots for backing up 'stand alone exchange install'). When ever the oppurtinity presents itself I always like to learn from examples, instead of trial-and-error.
