VBR -- essentials needed to backup Domain Controller (single host) vm + Exchange (single host) vm
All the servers mentioned below are individual single host instances. I am trying to backup my Home Lab, so my environment is the simplest possible scenario.
I am hoping to get some quick advice to start backing up as soon as possible. I realize the minimally viable product answer for my Home Lab may not scale for large scale environments.
Even the smallest environments (like my home lab) need to be backed up.
Veeam's Windows Agent backup (bare metal client) DOES NOT have any "Guest Processing" user interface configuration options (because it runs locally already).
veeam backup and replication DOES have "Guest Processing" user interface configuration options... and all the white paper docs cite database backups as the primary reason to configure "Guest Processing".
In Veeam Backup and Replication do I need to configure "Guest Processing" options for backing up a single Domain Controller and a single Exchange Server?
If "Guest Processing" needs to be configured, would you please share the basic essentials for backing up a single Domain Controller and a single Exchange Server?

Re: VBR -- essentials needed to backup Domain Controller (single host) vm + Exchange (single host) vm
Hi Hari
Yes, enabling guest processing (application aware processing) is strongly recommended for domain controllers and exchange server. The configuration is totally simple. Just enabling a checkbox and provide user credentials.
Can you please share what Hypervisor you use for your VMs?
With vSphere, HyperV or Nutanix AHV, you can create a VM backup job and enable Guest processing. Provide credentials of a user account with the correct permission.
Best,
Fabian

Thank you for responding. I want to be sure I provide all the additional information you request, I also want to be sure I clarify that I understand your documentation correctly.
MY hypervisor = VMware ESXi 7.0
My VMs = Server 2012 R2 (DC) and Server 2008 R2 (Exchange 2010 SP3 RU 30)
So:
...to backup DC ---> setup credentials with "built-in ~Administrators~ group" [i.e. "local administor group on the machine where the dc is installed"]??
and
...to backup exchange ---> setup an account w/ "local Administrator permissions on the machine where Microsoft Exchange is installed"??
Then check these boxes

Do I need to setup anything in the submenus behind the two buttons?
Button #1 of 2 = the "Applications..." button
Button #1 of 2 = the Indexing..." button

What was the last version of VBR that supported Exchange 2010?

Okay, VBR v11 because I am still running Ex2010 in my home lab.
MY hypervisor = VMware ESXi 7.0
My VMs = Server 2012 R2 (DC) and Server 2008 R2 (Exchange 2010 SP3 RU 30)
