delete groups and categories - manually categorized objects
Hi,
I have this symtom:
I changed to a new vCenter Server and I want to create new categories and groups. Before I do that, I have to delete all old groups and categories. I become the message: "Group ... cannot be delete because it contains manually objects. Use Workspace tab to remove categorization for this objects".
The objectes for example 'Host System' are uncategorized and I excluded from categorization.
Have someone a idea'
Best regards
Klaus

Hello Klaus,
How did switch to the new vCenter Server? Did you remove original one from Veeam ONE and then added new server? What version of Veeam ONE are you at?
Thank you!

Hi Vitaly,
for vSphere:
We disconnected the esx-hosts partially from the old vCenter Server and after that we connected it to the new vCenter Server.
for Veeam
Within Veeam we added the the vCenter parallel because we had to see permanently all objects.
In this case we see some objects like datastores from two vCenter Servers for a certain time. Other objects like hosts or VMs disappear and show again from new vCenter Server.

Hmm...The proper way would be to remove vCenter Server, make sure all objects are removed and then add new vCenter Server. If you can remove vCenter Server and then add it back, after verifying that existing categories and groups a removed, then it should fix the issue. If this is not acceptable, then please contact our technical team as we might need to run some clean up scripts against your Veeam ONE database.

Hi Vitaly,
together with the technical team of veeam I was able to solve my problem.
I have run sripts against the database to delete this entries.

Re: delete groups and categories - manually categorized obje
Hello
We have the same issue - We cant delete one of groups because of an error "Group "Test2" cannot be deleted because it contains manually categorized objects. Use Workspace tab to remove categorization for these objects." I've done recommendations from KB1501 and have even deleted a connect to VI server, but the issue still presents.
Can you help us to solve it?

Hello,
According to the poster above, there should be a script that can help you to remove object entries that are using this group, so please contact our technical team directly.
Thanks!
