Backup to Tape Jobs - Fileshares
Hi everyone,
we are using Veeam 10 B&R to also backup a couple of Synology NAS located at several remote locations.
Adding the several fileshares per device for the Backup job worked flawlessly using the NFS fileshare option and the job completed without errors.
However when trying the backup the Fileshare-to-Disk job using the Backup to Tape job, the job is not found.
This issue however only occurs for fileshare backups; other VM backup jobs are found and are available for Backup to Tape.
Please advise how to backup the Disk-Backup to Tape.
Thank you very much!

Re: Backup to Tape Jobs - Fileshares
Hi Fedor,
thanks for your quick reply.
The only problem is, that due to the NAS systems being remote, the backup speed for a backup is quite low (due to WAN limitations).
Thus making the backup directly to tape would result in max 20MB/s tape write speed, being bad for the tape heads and blocking the library unnecessarily long.
Is there any way to setup a D2D2T backup strategy for fileshares using Veeam ?
Thanks

This is exactly what I was talking about. You should backup your NAS data to disk first using File Backup Jobs, then get this data to tape using File to Tape Jobs.
Thanks

Re: Backup to Tape Jobs - Fileshares
Alright, so I kind of just copy the veeam backup files from the local Datastore over to tape.
Got it, thanks!
Sorry for bothering, been a BE user for most of my thinking.
One last thing - using the File to Tape job type: is it possible to restore the initially secured data from the NAS devices directly from Tape, or do I first have to copy the backup back to the local datastore from Tape and then Veeam restores?
Thanks a million

You are welcome!
Yes, the data will be restored directly from tape to the desired location. Please check that section for details.
Regards,
Fedor
