File Share Backups - S3 Glacier as Archive Repository Target

I forget exactly which version of VBR 12 (12.0, 12.1, 12.2) added the ability to backup Unstructured Data (File Shares) direct to Object Storage, but, something sorely missing from this is the ability to backup this unstructured data to Amazon S3 Glacier and (I assume) the equivalent Azure Archive Storage.

In the case of AWS S3 Glacier, this is simply another folder in any S3 bucket, including the same bucket you are already using as a direct to Object Storage backup target. In the "Archive Repository" configuration of a "File Share" backup job, normal S3 buckets are available as an "Archive repository", but actual configured Amazon S3 Glacier backup repositories do not appear in this list. This seems more like an oversight and should already be possible with the technologies at hand, can we have it added?

While an Amazon S3 Glacier repository can be configured as a location in a SOBR, File Share (among other) backup jobs cannot utilize a SOBR if Object Storage is used for any of the SOBR extents (https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120) (ergo, unusable for archiving to Glacier). So, can we get this addressed so that we can backup/archive unstructured data to Glacier/Archive tiers in the same way we can for general S3 storage?

Welcome to the forum.
I wouldn’t call it an oversight, we just haven’t implemented this yet due to higher-priority feature requests.
We also have a note in the Help Center that Archive Storage is not supported:

Consider the following limitations:
- Amazon S3 Glacier and Azure Blob Storage Archive Tier are not supported for unstructured data backup.

Nevertheless, we are aware of the request to add support for "Amazon S3 Glacier and Azure Archive Storage" to our File Backup Jobs / Copy Jobs. I’ll add your vote to our internal feature request system.
