How can I restore a Veeam backup?
Background:
We recently changed our IT supplier, who was also responsible for our backups. Our backups included both local backups to a Synology NAS and cloud backups. We no longer have access to the cloud backups, but there are still traces of data on the NAS—approximately 2.5 TB of files.
I have no intention of rehiring the former supplier (there’s a reason we switched), and since the files must be there they should be recoverable right!?
On the NAS, there is a folder named Veeam, containing various subfolders and files:
Veeam/

├── ArchiveIndex/

│ ├── c3210f0a-2dc9-4612-95f5-ea6d9f688411
├── VeeamConfigRepository/
│ ├── VeeamConfigBackup
├── WIA-KIN-BCK
├── VeeamZIP/
│ ├── wia-kin-ts01_Do_Not_StartD2023-05-25T101715_8021
├── WIA_ALL_ST03_1
Question:
How can I retrieve the backup files stored on the NAS?
Thanks!

Re: How can I restore a Veeam backup?
Looks like there are two different backup types, VBR configuration backup and a few machines. With one of the latter being a VeeamZIP backup, which is a standalone full backup created interactively instead of with a scheduled backup job. You can try to Import these backups according to the steps outlined in the User Guide, once imported they will be shown directly in UI and will have various restore options available. In case you experience any issues with the import process, feel free to open a support case for hands on assistance. Thanks!

Alright. Do I need any software and where can I get that?
Since this is located on a NAS, should I use a special Synology version, or something else?
/Sorry for the dumb questions, but I have never used Veeam before.

No, just a regular Veeam Backup & Replication from veeam.com

Re: How can I restore a Veeam backup?
Is it correct that I need to do this from a Windows machine? The only software I can find for macOS is the "Veeam agent".
I guess I need the top alternative on this list: https://www.veeam.com/products/download ... rsion.html
Ie "Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3"?

Re: How can I restore a Veeam backup?
Downloading and trying to install the software gives me error. I guesss it's because I'm on Windows 11 form ARM...?
(I'm trying to attach a screenshot but it seems it's not possible?)
The error says:
"Veeam Setup Engine
An error has occurred: The system cannot open the device or file specified."
