Manage NetApp CIFS Snapshots/Mirror/Vault

Hi, looking to see if I can configure and manage the NetApp CIFS snapshots and SnapMirror/Vault relationships via a Veeam backup job, I have done this for snapshots/Snapmirror/Vault with VM's on NFS volumes in them between two clusters but cannot see that it can also be done with volumes containing CIFS, am I missing something or is this just not supported?

So I don't want to "copy/backup" the CIFS files, only manage the replication of snapshots and Mirror/Vault retention between the primary NetApp and Secondary NetApp.

Hi Gostev, thanks for the quick reply. Possible feature addition? Be nice to have this managed in the same place as the Veeam VM Snapshot/replication management via storage integration.

It's possible, just not a high priority feature for us, as snapshot replication is not a real backup. Meaning, it does not meet the 3-2-1 rule of backup due to the absence of media break. We've seen this approach failing our NetApp customers before, where both the primary array and SnapMirror/SnapVault copies had the same corruption.

Hello Mark, this is a feature request already on our list. We can not comment at the moment about the future plans related to that direction. v11 will bring Snapshot integration for NAS Backup.

However if you contact our SEs you can get a script that can be used with the NAS jobs that handle primary and secondary snapshot processing.
