need dedicated interface (vlan cifs ) only for flow NAS backup
Case #05811290
Hello
Since 2 years we backup our Ontap volumes (SVM on Cluster Ontap 9) with Veeam nas backup jobs.
Users reach CIFS data hosted on NetApp via vlan A (CIFS)
Now we want to add a second CIFS interface for our SVM, this new CIFS interface (vlan B) will be only used for flow backup data by Veeam.
The goal is to dedicate this new vlan B only for backup.
My question is:
How can configure Veeam to force using this new vlan B for accessing Data for bck/restore (shares on NetApp volumes)
For network segmentation context, vlan A don't have to be used for flow backup anymore,
Thank you very much
Best regards

Hello,
do you have the Netapp integrated in the Storage Infrastructure section? If yes, you can use "preferred networks".
To make preferred networks work, you need to make sure, that the physical ports of your Netapp controllers also have the VLANs connected correctly. If you run the SVM on a Netapp node, where the VLAN is not available, then preferred networks will be overridden and the wrong interface will be used.
As you say that "preferred networks" are not working, I can only guess, that the node selection override plays a role. That problem is described in case 05791698 and you can tell the support engineer to cross-check with that case.
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: need dedicated interface (vlan cifs ) only for flow NAS backup
Hello Hannes,
Thx for your reply,
Yes i confirm we use NetApp integrated in storage infrastructure.
Like support suggested me, this afternoon i tried to play with "Preferred Networks" inside the Veeam proxy parameter,
On my Veeam Windows proxy, i have one network interface for management, and i just added a second network interface for vlan bckup flow, of course i also added the same interface (vlan bck) on my SVM, from my proxy i successfull ping the new interface on my SVM and explore shares no problem !, this new vlan dedicated for bck is not routed (question of security), but i am still not able to force proxy to pass by this new interface (vlan bck) for reaching CIFS data
So my SVM own now two CIFS interface (one for users and the other one for bck), but how can force proxy to use is second interface and reach the second SVM IP ? we are ok proxy connect to the SVM CIFS ip to collect data ? right ?
Thank a lot

Hello,
the preferred network rules are the "force". If it's not working, support needs to check.
there should be two sections in the log
and
The physical node location overrides preferred network rules.
Best regards,
Hannes

Code: Select all
IP order before ordering by backup traffic rules

Hello,
Finally, it works, i don't know why first test don't. But it's ok now, thanks for that !
But when you configure preferred networks on a Veeam proxy, these parameters seems automatically applied on the other Veeam proxies ! you confirm ?
Best regards

Hello,
good to hear.
Yes, traffic rules are global. I never configured them in the proxy wizard
I always use the main menu / burger menu top left and go to "Network traffic rules"
Best regards,
Hannes
