Not able to select direct Object Storage repository for backup job

Post by cdacTuan »

Hello,
I am trying to back up content of a nas to s3 glacier using backup and replication v12 enterprise. after creating the object storage repository to a bucket in aws, i tried to create a job but the newly created object storage repository does not show up in the drop down for me to select when creating backup job. please let me know what i am doing wrong.

thanks.

Hi, direct backup to Glacier is not supported. Glacier is designed and priced for archival, not daily backups/restores (cheap storage, but very expensive API calls to write to / read from). Thanks!

what is the use for object storage repository that you can add within Veeam if it can't be used for backing up data?

As Archive Tier for scale-out backup repositories. These use automatically provisioned helper appliances to repackage backups into a special archive format with very large objects, to make using Glacier make economical sense. The best use case is basically "Write Once Read Never" as I like to say, which is quite typical for long-term archival anyway.
