SMB issues with Netapp

Post by srmvel »

Hi All,

We're experiencing an issue with our Veeam setup and NetApp storage infrastructure. We've integrated the NetApp cluster using the "backupadmin" credentials(it has complete privilege), without specifying the hostname\backupadmin. Anyway it worked without this syntax "hostname\backupadmin"

Created new volume on the NetApp cluster and set up SMB shares.

We have a new SVM for this SMB/CIFS and that is integrated with AD.

However, our Veeam Backup & Replication (B&R) server is currently in a workgroup, not joined to the domain.

When attempting to perform an SMB backup from the Veeam, the process creates a snapshot on the NetApp volume, but ultimately fails with an error "Error: Agent: Failed to process method {NasMaster.CreateBackupProcessor}: The user name or password is incorrect".

Note that Windows Firewall is disabled on the Veeam server.

NETAPP SMB shares  Test share is \\10.10.10.157\WinSMB

Veeam server Not part of any domain. however, when I try to access the above path via AD creds from Veeam server,it works.

Hi srmvel,

Sorry to hear about the challenges; I'm actually not quite getting the exact way you've added the Netapp to Veeam, but if it's added as a NAS Filer, please confirm the permissions here.

If no luck, it's best to open a Support Case. Be sure to include logs for Support to review. (Use the 1st radio button to select from jobs, and pick an example job which failed)

Please share your case number once created. Thanks!

Hi,

there is two different logins you define.
The "backupadmin" is the one you used to add the NetApp cluster itself to Veeam and used for us to talk to the ONTAP APIs.
For the NAS backup itself you will need to set the correct username in the NAS wizard as shown here, that is the user we will use to read the data from the share: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120

Thanks
Stefan Renner
