Summary: We have a 3 Node windows file cluster using the "File Server" role. We are getting successful backups, but not able to utilize VSS.
The job is a "File Backup" type job, using SMB Shares.
Our XDR system is Sentinel One, but for this exercise we have disabled the agent on the proxy and the cluster nodes.
The system is configured with the Veeam account as a local administrator to the server, and the account also has full control of the share we are referencing for this ticket.
The job error message is:
Before, During, and after the backups all writers are listed as state "No Error".11/19/2025 1:57:39 PM :: Failed to create a VSS snapshot, failing over to direct backup from the file share Details: Failed to add volume [\\DE1VC-FS1\E$\] to the VSS snapshot set
The shadow copy provider had an unexpected error while trying to process the specified operation.
--tr:Failed to add volumes to the snapshot set.
--tr:Failed to perform pre-backup tasks.
We can manually create snapshots and disk utilization is less than 10% for the test backup.
