Pretty new to Proxmox. Veeam Backup or PBS?

Post by Moebius »

Hi, I am rather new to Proxmox. I am undergoing a course where Proxmox Backup Server has been just skimmed, and the teacher knew very little about Veeam (let alone its latest version).

I know this is a Veeam forum, and am a long time Veeam user and fan, but I need to understand the mutual pros and cons.

Which features one product has and are missing (to date) in the other one?

Thanks!

Hi,

Here are some things that VBR can do (in addition to other things that both solutions can do):

- export virtual disks from its backups
- perfrom application item recovery for certain Apps using heuristics
- restore your VMs to public clouds
- direct backup to Object Storage
- backup copy to object storage
- backup archive to object storage
- automatic GFS policy
- self-contained protable backup files
- data immutability
- threat detection

The list is from the top of my head, there is a bunch of other items, but I think you get the idea.

Thanks!
