Proxmox Veeam Worker directly to local repository
Apologies if I should know this, but,
I have the Veeam Backup Server in our datacenter.
Across the wan link in our office , we have a ProxMox Server and I am in process of installing a Veeam Worker on it.
So if I create a Backup repository in the office, not the datacenter and configure it on the Veeam Backup Server (a NFS or CIFS share on a local NAS), will the Veeam Worker backup directly to it?
So the Veeam Backup Server is in the datacenter and the Veeam Worker and Backup repo are in the office.
Or will the backup traffic go back to the Veeam server and back to the repo?
Thanks for any help

Hello,
The traffic will go through the VBR.
If the backup repository is not located on the same machine as VBR, no additional traffic will be generated.

Hello,
This doesn't seem to match the data flows on this page - maybe it's changed since the answer?
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbpro ... html?ver=1
If I understand that page, you don't have to have the data go through the VBR Backup Server, you can send it directly from the worker to a repository as long as you have a data mover role (persistent or non persistent).

Hello @crowsprofiles ,
What type of backup repository are you using in your case?

Re: Proxmox Veeam Worker directly to local repository
That's exactly what the page says, and how it works in reality - backup data flows between the source datamover residing on the worker, and the target datamover residing on the repository. If I understand that page, you don't have to have the data go through the VBR Backup Server, you can send it directly from the worker to a repository as long as you have a data mover role (persistent or non persistent).
The only connection happening between with VBR is the management connection (negligible amounts of traffic), unless you place the repository on VBR. In this case source datamover (worker) will pour all backup data directly into the VBR (because the target repo is placed there).
P.S. If you use CIFS-based repo, and the gateway role is assigned to VBR, then the datamover will be running on VBR.
Thanks!

Thanks @PTide for confirming - that's what I've understood, what is why I was surprised by was the statement by @rovshan.pashayev that "The traffic will go through the VBR."

Re: Proxmox Veeam Worker directly to local repository
TBH, I think it was just some miscomm here because it might have been not quite clear from this part where exactly you place the components (i.e. gateway server).
I hope everything is clear now : )
Thanks!
So, based on the bold part, an assumption was made that your VBR server also holds the role of a gateway for your NAS device. Hence the answer was "The traffic will go through the VBR."So if I create a Backup repository in the office, not the datacenter and configure it on the Veeam Backup Server (a NFS or CIFS share on a local NAS), will the Veeam Worker backup directly to it?
I hope everything is clear now : )
Thanks!
