I wanted to ask if the new Proxmox 8.4 backup API will be included in Veeam B&R 13?
Currently there are sometimes problems with the Worker VMs.
With the new API the backup is standardized similar to the VMware Backup API.
I expect a more stable and faster backup and maybe also a live restore.

Hello,
Can you describe problems you are referring to with the Worker VMs?Currently there are sometimes problems with the Worker VMs.

Re: New Proxmox Backup API in Veeam B&R 13?
The worker VMs often get stuck during backup and the backups abort. The jobs on the affected host can then no longer be started as the VMs do not respond correctly.
It usually helps to roll out the Worker VM again.
A workaround that has always worked so far is to switch off the shutdown of the Worker VMs so that they remain switched on. Then it works stable.
This is currently the most common problem, which is often reported in the Proxmox forum.
I also find the performance of the backups not so good and hope for similar speeds as the PBS, if the same functions are used via the API.

Both workers and performance should be investigated through our Support as they are unexpected (especially performance being slower than PBS when in our labs it is up to a few times faster). The new backup API can't help with either issue since we're using a different approach to backups. Thanks

Re: New Proxmox Backup API in Veeam B&R 13?
Hello Anton,
if I compare apples with oranges, then of course the PBS is slower
The PBS always does dedup, which is why it naturally cannot perform on spinning Rust.
If I have B&R and PBS on Flash, then the data transfer is comparable.
I am hoping for a backup via the API similar to vSphere without HotAdd VMs. By the time the magic is finished with the workers and they start transferring, the PBS is already finished.
I also have the first customers with 100 GBit for backup. The VMs can't even begin to utilize this. When I do PBS backups, I see at least 60-80 GBit.
If we could achieve the same without worker VMs, that would be great.
