Proxmox restore and backup need to activated volume first

Post by NojuHD »

Hello Veeam-Team,

as I'm currently involved in testing proxmox storage-plugins, we encountered an issue.
It looks like veeam is not issuing activate_volume() before restore or taking backups of offline vms.

This should be default behavior, as it is for native backups.

As a result veeam will fail to restore or backup if the disks are not permanently present to proxmox and only get so by activate_volume()

Afterwards it should issue deactivate_volume().

Hello,

Will you be able to open a Support Case, upload the logs, and provide the case number here?

Hey @rovshan.pashayev - How do you create support logs for Proxmox items? I'm not seeing the option to select logs for jobs, objects, or even the workers in the export logs page.

I'll provide what NojuHD is talking about, as I'm also using this plugin in my environment.

Code: Select all

3/14/2025 1:09:09 PM Error ubuntu : kvm: -drive file=/dev/disk/by-id/wwn-0x624a937096622a35a07e4a3300013367,if=none,id=drive-scsi0,aio=native,discard=on,format=raw,cache=none,detect-zeroes=unmap: Could not open '/dev/disk/by-id/wwn-0x624a937096622a35a07e4a3300013367': No such file or directory
That is the error you get when trying to restore a VM or try to backup it up while offline.

Like NojuHD stated, Veeam is not verifying the iSCSI disk is present before trying to read or write to it, so it fails. It needs to activate the disk first in order to do so.

Hi PwrBank,
the logs for Proxmox are included in the log bundle of the Veeam Backup & Replication Server itself. So just select "Export all logs for selected components" and choose the VBR Server.

Hi All,

Summary:
The current Proxmox VE Plug-In does not support backups and restores using iSCSI connections with Pure Storage plugin.
For all other limitations, please see the User Guide here.

@PwrBank, would you like to us note this as a Feature Request? :)
