Azure Backup Policy Schedule Snapshots
I saw a forum post a while back where 'Snapshots to keep' for retention can be set to a minimum of 1 for daily and 0 for weekly and monthly. I have tried setting weekly and monthly to 0 however in the GUI it brings up a warning message about it. As a MSP it would be nice to set weekly and monthly to 0 snapshots so that the snapshots aren't stored customer tenancy however I understand there are CBT considerations to think about.
Would anyone be able to give any advise on the best option for the weekly and monthly snapshot configurtion?

Hi,
Yes, there is an existing thread explaining the 1 snapshot situation. Before one can help with the configuration, can you please tell us what your requirements are for backups/snapshots?
Thanks!

Re: Azure Backup Policy Schedule Snapshots
Hi Vitaliy,
I did search through the forum before posting but must have missed the post you linked. My requirements are to keep 7 daily backups (1 snapshot), 30 weekly (currently set to 0 snapshots), 12 monthly (currently set to 0 snapshots).
After reading the other post it seems like the recommendation is to set weekly and monthly snapshots to 1 instead of 0. I'm just curious as to what performance and cost implications selecting 0/1 snapshots will have?

Hi Gunnersaurus,
Ok, I see. Let me quickly consult with our QA team for the best setup/cost implications and I will post back.
Thanks!

Gunnersaurus, just to update the thread.
I have not forgotten about you, we are running various tests to confirm the behavior, so stay tuned.

Re: Azure Backup Policy Schedule Snapshots
@Gunnersaurus, keeping snapshots for weekly and monthly schedule is not needed (put it to 0), given that you do daily snapshots. Also, can you please let me know what storage tiers you use?

Re: Azure Backup Policy Schedule Snapshots
Thanks for getting back to me with that information. Currently I'm using 7 days in hot tier for daily schedule, 30 days in cool tier for weekly schedule, 12 months in cool tier for monthly schedule.

Re: Azure Backup Policy Schedule Snapshots
I see, given that you use a hot tier for daily backups, you don't need to keep snapshots for CBT in other schedules (weekly, monthly).
