Microsoft Fabric Support?

Post by JoshBenell »

Hello,

We received a question from a customer asking whether Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure supports Microsoft Fabric, and whether medallion data can be backed up.

I won't claim to really understand Fabric, but I'd appreciate any input on this. From what they said, the Fabric data they are looking to back up would be accessible as SQL data in Azure.

Thanks

As far as I know, Fabric is a SaaS solution for Analytics/BI/Data Science, like Microsoft 365 and other products.
It's run on Azure, but you can't access the infrastructure, so Veeam Backup for Azure can't access the components.

Veeam Backup for Azure is capable of protecting these components: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbazu ... tml?ver=60
But we need access to the Azure Subscription where they belong.

If you're talking about medallion data stored as part of a Delta Lake on Azure Blob, it is possible to backup the source data.

For ADLSgen2 you can use Blob Fuse with caching turned off and mounted as an NFS mount with the correct export settings and Veeam Backup & Replication Unstructured Data Backup for Files (NAS Backup).

Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.
