VBA upgrade via VBR to 5a fails due to lack of permissions

Post by b.vanhaastrecht »

Hello,

We are upgrading our VBA's to 5a but it fails due to lack of permissions. We have set the Azure Permissions as described in https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbazu ... upgrade_5a

Then the upgrade fails with this error:

Code: Select all

[20.09.2023 09:09:25.627] 42 (1) Resolving principal roles...
[20.09.2023 09:09:25.627] 42 (1) Validating role permissions...

[20.09.2023 09:09:25.780] 42 (1) Error: Not enough permissions to perform the migration. Missing permissions Microsoft.Network/networkSecurityGroups/write for Microsoft Azure application 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000. The migration is not allowed.
[20.09.2023 09:09:25.809] 42 (1) Snapshots /subscriptions/1daaad0e-a68e-4a8f-9d66-5a4896168211/resourcegroups/rg-antongroep-westeu-01/providers/microsoft.compute/snapshots/veeam.snapshot.44aa5ca5-adf2-4f8c-b89f-fa0acef35665, /subscriptions/1daaad0e-a68e-4a8f-9d66-5a4896168211/resourcegroups/rg-antongroep-westeu-01/providers/microsoft.compute/snapshots/veeam.snapshot.9931cd4b-55c5-49df-9130-fbd1f5285c9d of virtual machine /subscriptions/1daaad0e-a68e-4a8f-9d66-5a4896168211/resourcegroups/rg-antongroep-westeu-01/providers/microsoft.compute/virtualmachines/vm-srv-bck01-westeu-01 will remain in Microsoft Azure. To delete those snapshots, a user action is needed.
After adding Microsoft.Network/networkSecurityGroups/write permission the upgrade is successfully. Veeam please check if this is a docu error of a oversight.

Please note, VBR is connected privately to VBA.

Regards,
Bastiaan

Hi Bastiaan!
Thank you for sharing this information. Please note that this permission is documented in the List of Permissions to Upgrade Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure Appliance to Version 5a. We also will review the full list of permissions and make any necessary updates.

It's missing in the normal permission list. While ONLY upgrade it is there. So upgrade is part of the normal list and therefore this permission should be included there to.

Hi Bastiaan,

We'll adjust it in the user guide to reflect the upgrade documentation.
