Backup Copy Job Verification
What is the best way to verify the integrity of a Backup Copy Job?
I see the “Perform Backup Files Health Check” function and intend to use it, however...
I really LOVE the marvelous functionality of SureBackup but it appears that it can’t be used with Backup Copy Jobs and since those Jobs aren’t simply copying the associated Job’s files, but rather appear to be creating (building) new (synthesized?) files from the associated Job’s Restore Point(s), I really want to know that those Copy Jobs are Good-to-Go should the need ever arise.
So, what’s the conventional wisdom on this?
Thanks,
Nick

Re: Backup Copy Job Verification
Hi Nick, health check ensures the backup copies are bit-identical to source backups contents, so provided you use SureBackup to check recoverability of the source restore points, you're good to go.

Re: Backup Copy Job Verification
Thanks Foggy and please pardon my ignorance but when you say, “bit identical”, identical as compared to what, the actual data (as in normal File Data) contained within the Block Level backups?
I ask because I can see that the Backup vs. the respective Backup Copy .VIB files are significantly different in size, so it can’t be bit-2-bit there, right?
Thanks again,
Nick

Re: Backup Copy Job Verification
Right, since backup chains are still different. But health check ensures the VM state backup copy has just copied is identical to the one stored on source (i.e. all the blocks required to build the same VM state are identical).

Ummm, I just noticed that you said, “bit-identical to source backups contents”, so I guess you answered my question before I asked it.
Sorry ‘bout that Foggy.
Thanks again & again,
Nick
