Hi,
Since VBR does not support vm image level backups from VMs on a hyperV on windows client OS.
What is the recommended way to backup the VM's?
Background:
I got a request to move 2 Windows clients (Win7/Win10) to new hardware since the old machines are getting very old.
They are running very specialized software. Both are running veeam agent backing up to local NAS.
Recommendation from the software supplier was to virtualize them to keep the configuration and avoid reinstallation.
The plan:
Get 2 new clients, install hyper-v & Veeam
Import the old backup and do an instant recovery to a vm.
Then what? Just keep the Veeam agents running on the vm's`?

Re: Best way to backup VM running on Windows 11
Hi Joakim,
Just to confirm, when you say HyperV VMs on a Windows client, you mean HyperV hosted on Windows Desktop, correct?
Veeam Agent for Windows is your best bet here. You can protect the VMs directly, or in theory just protect the host system, though I would do the VMs directly personally. (We have agents for Linux and Unix systems as well)
The restore narrative is fairly similar to an Image Level backup, but instead of direct VM restore, you would use Instant Recovery or export the disks as VHDX and attach them to a machine. File and Application level restores will work in a similar fashion.
