Best way to replicate Virtual machines to a shared folder

Post by ajtsystems » Jan 29, 2014 9:19 am

Hi,
I am using Hyper-V 2008
Been backing up happily now for a few weeks with my Veeam Backup and Replication and want to expand. What's the best way to copy my backups off site? I currently have at the destination a Synology NAS running a CIFS shared folder that I want to copy my backups to.
Ideally I want to copy the flat .vhd files to the remote Synology so how would I do this, is it possible without using just the File copy jobs?

Any help appreciated

If you want to copy backup files offsite, then, the best option you have is backup copy job. If you want to copy flat .vhd files, you should put into use File Copy Job.

In case of backup copy job and remote CIFS share, you should specify proxying server at remote location.

Thanks.

Also, please note that being staffed with regular hard drives, this kind of storage does not provide enough IOPS to perform synthetic backup at decent speed (and that is what backup copy job does - synthetically creates restore points in target location from VM data stored in source backup repositories).
