Brick level restore Exchange 2007

Post by JeWe »

Hi,

we have Exchange 2007, as I know there is no way to restore brick level for this version? Veeam Explorer needs at least Exchange 2010... Is it planned to support Exchange 2007 better? Or is there another way to restore single mails / contacts / ... ?

Regards

Probably, for Hyper-V environment the best way you have for restoring single items from Exchange 2007 is utilization of Instant VM Recovery functionality.

You can start your Exchange from the required backup file, then, connect to it by the means of Outlook, and copy necessary items into PST file. After that, this file should be imported into production Exchange, again via Outlook.

Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Thanks for responding.

But this means I will need a test lab with Exchange 2007 and AD? If not, Exchange won't start, right? I'm a little bit confused about that.

Please take a look at this post from Anton for the answer.

Yes, you will need to bring online dependent VMs also.

In the first beta 1 release of Veeam Explorer for Exchange there was the 2007 and 2010 option. 2007 is not supported anymore in the Explorer but it worked. Does anyone still have that download?

As far as I remember Veeam Explorer for Exchange never supported Exchange 2007, even in the first beta that we introduced almost a year ago.

May be you are thinking Exchange AIR wizard... it is still available in the download area, and it support Exchange 2003 and 2007.

But not for Hyper-V since there is no U-AIR for Hyper-V. I guess you could make manual vLab and use instant restore.

No I do not mean the U-AIR. In the first beta 1 it was possible to select both 2007 and 2010 in the configurationpane.

May be the first beta simply did not have built-in version check preventing you from selecting non-2010 Exchange database implemented. But technically speaking, Exchange 2007 was never supported in the actual code (Exchange database format is quite different between 2007 and 2010).
