Case # 07279471 - An error has occurred: This action is only valid for products that are currently installed.

I recently took over IT operations for a small dental practice - their previous IT MSP left things in shambles - to the point that the owner of the practice could pursue legal action if he chose to (just trying to give you an idea of the state of things).

The server - Runs Windows Server 2019 with all updates and hosts 1 VM (previously hosted 3 VMs, but I moved those over to a beefy desktop while I resolve their other issues).

The VM - Runs the dental database software - has 4 differencing disks from 2019.

The issue - the VM Host had a really really old unlicensed version of Veeam that had been failing backups since 2019 (the differencing disks are probably a result of the Veeam issue). I tried upgrading to the latest version (bought a license for the practice) - but could not perform an inplace upgrade. So I uninstalled the old Veeam installation and am attempting to install the Veeam version that I am licensed for.

Whenever I run the installer I get the following the error: An error has occurred: This action is only valid for products that are currently installed.

Nothing shows up in the logs, remnant Veeam folders have all been removed, no veeam services on the machine, and the Registry is pretty much clean of anything veeam related.

Yes - this is a production server - yes I am getting backups (combination of a robocopy script dumping to a NAS, and Windows Server Backup - not the prettiest, and I lose sleep over it.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welp, I am in idiot and should have RTFM - Veeam backup and replication isn't meant to be installed on the Hyper-V host ... So if you are reading this and have the same problem - spin up a new VM, don't join it to the domain (per recommendations from support) and install the software on the VM.
