Change Hyper-V cluster name
Hy!
I have a VBR and backup some VMs which part of Hyper-V cluster. The cluster added to VBR via cluster name (Cluster). Nowadays I will migrate the old Hyper-V cluster to the new cluster with all VMs. How can I change the cluster name in VBR console to continue the VMs backup chain?
Thanks.

Re: Change Hyper-V cluster name
Hi Adam
Is my understanding correct? You will manage all virtual machines with a complete new Cluster?
New HyperV Hosts, new Cluster?
And virtual machines will be moved from the old HyperV hosts to the new HyperV host?
Best,
Fabian

Re: Change Hyper-V cluster name
Hy Fabian!
Yes, I will manage with all VMs with new Hyper-V Cluster. The new Hyper-V cluster will be new cluster name and IP address. The two Hyper-V hosts will be the same. The VMs relocate to the new storage during migration. After the migration I have to modify the old Cluster connection to the new Cluster in VBR. But there is a backup job which point to the cluster name to backup all clustered VMs.
How can I modify correctly the old Cluster name to the new without impact the existing backup chain?
Thx.

Re: Change Hyper-V cluster name
I found this article: https://www.veeam.com/kb1905
Will it work to change the old cluster name to the new cluster name, after I moved the two host to the new cluster?
Thanks.

Re: Change Hyper-V cluster name
Hi Adam,
I apologize for the delayed response; I was on business travel this week.
Yes, we do have that KB. However, the challenge I see in your case is that you will be moving VMs to a new cluster. This means that both the cluster ID and the VM ID will change on the hypervisor side.
Since Veeam Backup & Replication tracks virtual machines through these IDs, this migration will cause the virtual machines to be recognized as new. I expect that simply changing the name in the backup console will not prevent new backup chains (with Active Full) from being created.
Best,
Fabian

Hy Fabian!
No problem, thanks. I done the Hyper-V migration successfully, and Your coment was very helpfully. I modify the connected cluster name according to that KB. Furthermore I had to edit the existing backup job and modify to the new cluster nam under the Virtual Machines pane.
Thanks again.
