Checkpoints Stopping Disk Storage Extension
Hi,
There is a VM run on a job for our main server that is practically out of space. I would like to extend the storage of this VM, as it is quite important for our IT operations.
However, to be able to do this, there needs to be no checkpoints. I have disabled checkpoints in Hyper-V, so my question is how do I delete the checkpoint without affecting any other VMs and preferably not mess everything up?
Any help is appreciated
Cheers,
Jack

Hi Jack
I'm sorry for the late answer.
Can you show me a screenshot of the snapshots? Do you use veeam replicas?
Thanks
Fabian

Hi Fabian,
No worries on the timing of the reply.
I'm not exactly sure how to link attachments here but, essentially when I have the virtual hard drive selected in Hyper-V, it says "edit is not available because checkpoints exist for this virtual machine".
I'm trying to edit the drive to expand it's storage. I also do not use Veeam Replicas.
Thanks,
Jack

You can upload the image to https://imgbb.com/ and then post the link to the screenshot in this topic.
I believe you have orphaned checkpoints. If that's the case, please open case with our support to check your environment if they are veeam related or not.
Thanks
Fabian

I'm just wondering if there's a safe way I can delete the checkpoints from the job running in Veeam B&R?

Re: Checkpoints Stopping Disk Storage Extension
Thanks for the screenshots. They didn't contain the information I wanted to see.
If you have many checkpoints files on your HyperV datastore, then it seems you that you have orphaned checkpoints.

You can't delete checkpoints inside VBR console. VBR doesn't know about the checkpoints.if there's a safe way I can delete the checkpoints from the job running in Veeam B&R?

Re: Checkpoints Stopping Disk Storage Extension
Ok, thank you. I'm assuming I just go and find the checkpoints manually?

I wouldn't delete checkpoint files manually.
If you unsure, please open a support case with Veeam or Microsoft.

Re: Checkpoints Stopping Disk Storage Extension
Hi,
This issue has now been resolved. I was looking to delete the checkpoint in Hyper-V to edit the disk. However, what I didn't know is that you can literally delete the checkpoint by clicking it and pressing the delete button. Thanks for the help regardless
