Hi fellas,
yesternite I had a real weird experience. A customer called in and reported that the support of Oracle checked the database / application setup after an unplanned reboot.
They were missing a subdirectory. A service takes reference an is starting from this directory. (checked this myself - there is an entry within services.msc).
As there is the database on this partition there are no shadow copies.
Checked all backups back to the date when the system was set up (in aug. 2019) (repo and tape):
This directory is within none of the backups. All the other files seem to be there (haven't checked all the 48k+).
How is this possible? Any cases like this?
We are/were using VBR 9.5, complete VM backup w/o errors (besides changing tapes from the library sometimes 1-2 days later as reported)
VMs are on Hyper-V Server 2016 DC
Greetings
hRy

Re: Directory not present in backup
Interesting case.
First guess would be a symlink, but yet again, that should be backed up even if target volume ain't present. You would see an empty folder.
I would start by checking Windows Event log(System->Provider: Service Control Manager) to check if that service was running at all...could it be it was dead since start?
/Thanks!

Re: Directory not present in backup
Hmmm,
the service starts some other services that had been used for webinterface, printing et.al (about 6 subprocesses). And they have printed and used the Web-Frontend
I'll doublecheck the backup after Oraclesupport has made it's voodoo.
