Enterprise Manager Catalog Retention

Post by mkaec »

In the Enterprise Manager settings, this is an item labeled "GUEST FILE SYSTEM CATALOG". The description says "By default, guest files system catalog only keeps data for backups currently on disk. With Standard Edition, guest file system catalog only keeps data for backups currently present in backup repositories. With Enterprise Edition, catalog is also kept for archived backups according to the set retention period." The online help says something similar.

If the setting is set to 3 months what does that mean for Enterprise edition? Does it mean that the catalog will contain data about all on-disk backups plus 3 months of archived data? Or does it mean that it will contain 3 months max even if I have 6 months of data in the repository?

This retention applies to archived backups only, indexing data for the backups that are currently stored on disk is always kept.
