Exchange 2003 Not Truncating Logs

Hello All

I'm new to Veeam and this is my first time using it.
We have a Standalone Windows 2008 R2 Hyper-V platform and running Exchange 2003 SP2 on a guest VM with Veeam 7.

I have setup a backup job in Veeam to truncate logs after a successful backup, the backup is successful but the logs don't truncate. I have ran the job 3 times now with no luck.

I have also used 'Truncate logs always' and this 'Does' trunacate them so Veeam is initiating the request.

There are no related errors in the Event log on the Exchange server.

Is there anyway i can troubleshoot this issue, any help is appreciated??

Hi, Kamran.

So, you’re saying that Exchange logs are truncated in case of “Always” option, meanwhile, they are not in case of “After successful” one, right? Also, what is the state of VSS writers (in order to check it, kindly, run the following command):

This is the output, it looks like there are 9 failures in the Excahnger Writer

Yep, it’s the root cause of the said issue. You have to ensure that there are no “Exchange writer” errors in order to truncate logs successfully. In case of retryable errors, you might want to restart the corresponding service or the server as a whole and see whether this error gets back or not.

rebooting cleared the error and we had a successful backup with truncated logs last night.
