Hi!
We have Veeam B&R10; Exchange 2016 and Windows 2016 on a Hyper-V environment.
Exchange backup job is stating that "Truncating Exchange transaction logs" is well performed.
We also have application aware set, including exchange.
Nevertheless we check the transaction logs on locations as below and there is stiil GB of them So they were not deleted at all.
C:\inetpub\logs\LogFiles\
C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Logging\
C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Bin\Search\Ceres\Diagnostics\ETLTraces\
C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Bin\Search\Ceres\Diagnostics\Logs
So we have to always manually delete those logs in order to maintain services running properly.
Oddly, exchange store/DB logs are being truncated.
Is veeam not supposed to clean those transaction logs as well?
Or it's only concerned about store/db logs?
Best Regards to All,
Paulo Balau

Re: Exchange Logs Truncation
This are not Exchange Database Transaction Logs.
This are Application Debug Logs from the Software itself.
You will need a script to remove them. This is not a feature from veeam
An example:

Re: Exchange Logs Truncation
Yes, I'm using this scripts as well
My question was if Veeam shouldn't clean those as well. After all its says "Appplication-aware"
In our particular case we've quite some GB generated daily.
Truncating only databases/stores logs its a shame...
It should take care of Transport Logs as well
Thanks!

Re: Exchange Logs Truncation
A Backup Software will only care about vss specific features from the databases. The Backup Software is not a cleaning software for all sort of things
You can schedule a script with veeam, if you need the backup software to clean up a filesystem (non db related logs) after the backup is done
