Ghost files in backup copy folder

Post by Anguel »

Hi,

In my VBR I am running some backup copy jobs of endpoints coming from Veeam Agent Free.
Now besides the expected "Backup_Copy_Job_Name" .vbm/.vbk/.vib files I also see some strange files in the copy job folder, that seem to belong to some of the endpoints, e.g. for endpoint RV511:
RV511_2019-11-22T170438_95f0f0e0-1de0-11b2-800.vbm
RV511D2019-12-06T063000_707995f0f0e0-1de0-11b2-8000-9218983cf95a.vbk
These files are older and exist only for some endpoints (maybe such that did not connect to the backup server for a longer time?).
I see such files only in the backup copy folder for endpoints running Veeam Agent, never for VMs that are backed up directly via VBR.
Any idea where these files come from and if they are safe to be deleted?

Thanks,
Anguel

Hi Anguel,

The files are produced by backup or backup copy job but it's difficult to say if it's possible to safely delete them or not without precise examination of your infrastructure. I would recommend to ask our support team to make sure that these files are not linked with any of existing chains, maybe check corresponding records in configuration database. If this is the case and you won't need to restore any data from these files in future, then these backups can be deleted.

Thanks!
