How many SOBRs

Post by svetecs »

Hi,
I'm my current setup, I 2x Data Domains (1 per Data Centre). I also have seperate MTrees/Backup Repositories for different workloads (Exchange, File, General etc).

I want to reconfigure my backups to the SOBR model to offload to Azure Capacity/Archive. What would be considered best practise?

1 SOBR with 1 single Performance Tier extent containing all backups? Or,
Individual SOBRs containing their respective individual Exchange, File or General extents?

If you want to continue separating workloads based on MTrees, then you need to create 1 SOBR with 1 single corresponding performance extent. Thanks!

I only split the MTrees up to facilitate replication between the Data Domains, but since SOBR/Offloading will replace DD-to-DD replication, would there be any benefit to having separate SOBRs/extents?

For example, it would allow for you to have different offload policies depending on a workload.
