how to access a repository with Exchange explorer from another machine?
Hi all,
We have a unique scenario where we need to give access for Exchange restores without giving the technicians access to the Veeam b&r server or repository server.
I have set up a standalone box to house the new repository that our primary b&r instance can target.
Can I install a community b&r instance on the technician's server and add in the same repository so that they can access it for restore operations? No jobs would be configured on this second b&r instance - it would just be for recovery operations.
Thanks!

Hi John,
Yes you can, however Technician will have to rescan said Repository each time prior to restore, to update his VBR knowledge about backup repository contents. Also problems with opened backup file + new backup running might occur...far from best design.
Check out Veeam Enterprise Manager - a web-based UI which has Exchange Recovery delegation functionality. Restore Operator will not have access to VBR server, no need to install anything to access EM portal, and can only see Exchange mailbox backups and restore those back to production(without any visibility of content).
/Cheers!

Hi Egor, can you help clarify this statement re: enterprise manager:
"To restore Microsoft Exchange items with Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager, Microsoft Exchange servers must be members of the same Microsoft Active Directory forest."
I can see a number of different ways to read this statement - it's a little vague. Thank you!

That means Veeam Enterprise Manager server must be a member of a domain within same forest as your Exchange server.
For exapmple, you have MBX01.milkandcookies.local, so Enterprise Manager can be like EM.milkandcookies.local and cannot be EM.hornsandhoofs.com.

Got it... but the b&r server can be in a different forest? This particular exchange server is in a completely separate domain and forest than the b&r server and hypervhosts.

Yes, should work just fine as long as Permissions and Ports and handled correctly.
p.s. just to double check before you jump into installation: Self-Service \ Recovery Delegation is a feature of Enterprise Plus edition.

Ah! So our lowly enterprise license can't achieve this anyway sounds like...
