How to backup a shared folder located on a VM?

Post by liuc »

Hi
which is the proper way to backup a shared folder that is located on a virtual machine ?

A short list of steps would be really appreciated, thanks.

Hello,

There are 3 main methods to do it:
1. The entire virtual machine backup
2. File-level backup with Veeam Agent
3. File share backup

I'd suggest planning the restore scenario to choose the most suitable backup method. What do you need to restore and how fast should it be? Do you need to be able to restore the entire server, individual files and folders or would it be better to leverage file share data recovery options?

Thanks!

I have already scheduled the backup of the entire VM once a week (on saturday).
I'd like to backup daily just files and folders within the shared folder and keep incremental backups until the next full VM backup.

I will take a look at links 2 and 3.

Thank you.

PS: with option 2 I have to install Windwos Agent on the virtual machine , right?
