How to restore in catastrophic event from Veeam B&R files on other computer
Hi.
We are testing a scenario of a catastrophic event.
We are trying to figure it out what would be the best (optimal) and fastest way to restore INDIVIDUAL WINDOWS FILES from a virtual machine in catastrophic event.
Scenario:
- Veeam backup and replication V10 - community edition installed on a Hyper-V server.
- Hyper-v server hosting 3 windows virtual machines
- Veeam B&R daily backup jobs configured to backup those 3 VM's and store backups on a network share.
So lets say that we loose that Hyper-V server and we have only Veeam B&R backups files from network share.
- We buy a new hardware, install Windows OS and install Veeam B&R.
- We open VBK file in Windows Explorer and get a prompt if we wish to open a file with either Veeam B&R or Veeam Agent.
- We select Veeam B&R which launches Veeam B&R console.
- Since the backups are/were encrypted we need to type the encryption password first.
- After that we choose restore guest windows files but we receive an error: REPOSITORY TYPE UNKNOWN.
Where did we go wrong?

Hi Bostjan,
You can try to use workaround described in this thread.
Also, the fix for this problem will be available in new releases.
Thanks!

Hi. Thank you for the reply. I saw that thread after I have posted my question on forum. Is there any ETA for update release?
With best regards

[MERGED] Unknown repository ?
Hello,
Need some help here. Properly something you guys have seen before.
I have some old backup copy jobs (Offsite) Some VBK´s, VIM and VBM chain file.
I made it available in veeam and added in : Fileshares So i can see and open the Folder/files from there.
But everytime I try to open a file like VBK. It runs the Wizard and then Failing with "Repository unknown".
My tape storage has the same fault. But same offsite backups.
I´m running the Community Edition and very soon the enterprise edition.
Any ideas.
P.s. Running version 10.0.0.4461 P2.
Deleting configurations files did not do the trick.
Either taking one VBK and run locally on my desktop.

Hard to say without debug logs, so, please, reach our support team for further investigation. Thanks!

Bostjan,
cannot provide any ETA now, most likely it will be included to the next major update.
Thanks!
