Hyper V backups snapshots not closing

We have 64 servers on 2 hosts that are split between 3 backup jobs, they have been working fine for a couple of years but recently have started failing part way through and when we check the snapshots on the failed VMs show the snapshot is still in a closing state after a couple of hours.
We have worked with Veeam trying various things on the Veeam side of the job removing Application Aware Processing and removing the ‘allow processing of multiple VM’s with a single volume snapshot’ option but they are still failing.
We have found that if we end the jobs when they fail, stop the shadow copy provider processes on the hosts and restart the Veeam services we can run veeamzips on the failed VMs.
We have tried creating a new job with a single VM, that worked for a couple of backups but then failed closing the snapshot. The frustrating part is that it isn’t consistent, sometimes the job fails straight away and others it will complete a varying number of VMs before hanging.
The VM's and Hosts are all windows 2012 r2 and we are using Veeam v10
Any ideas would be appreciated

I see you have quite and active discussion with Support and the next suggested step is to upgrade to v11 and install the latest patch.
It's hard to guess what happened, so please keep working with Support and keep us informed about the results you get.

Unfortunately we cannot upgrade to v11 at this time as we are in the process of data migration on our vSphere environment, I was hoping to find a work around until we are able to upgrade

Let's wait for the result of the test proposed by our engineer. If it does not address the issue, then the best action plan would be to continue working with our support team.

Thank you for letting us know and (especially!) for informing your Support engineer that the update is not an option.
You've tried a lot of different solutions and your case has a huge history. So I believe the chances are high that someone suggests you a workaround you have already tried.
Anyway, thank you for keeping us informed and I hope you'll find a solution with Support engineers soon.

For anyone experiencing a similar issue in the future the resolution found by support that worked for us was to check the Veeam Installer Service, it had not updated in the last upgrade so it was removed and reinstalled with the latest version and now all backups are completing successfully
