Hyper-V CSV Backup - VMs Reboot Randomly

Post by fulostix »

I already have opened ticket 00471597, but I am wondering if anyone has had the following issue:

1. Backing/Replicating a Hyper-V Cluster with CSV
2. When backing up the cluster, Virtual machines begin to randomly reboot during random time periods
3. As long as I do not run a backup routine, the VMs remain stable

This just started happening this week, and everything has been backing up fine for over a year now. It does not affect another Hyper-V cluster that we have being backed up.

The only thing I did notice were some strange errors in the VEEMFCT logs:

Code: Select all

[04.11.2013 07:40:17.266] VEEAMFCT [e10:e3c: 00] ERROR: 0040:0006: c00000bb

If anyone has any informaton....I would be most grateful.

Hello,

Do you have any error messages in the Windows Event log for this VM?

Thanks!

I did until this hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2870270
Virtual machine enters a paused state or a CSV volume goes offline when you try to create a backup of the virtual machine on a Windows Server 2012-based failover cluster

Unfortunately, the event viewer for the VMs that reboot are completely clean. They only state that serer rebooted unexpectedly.

The servers are running Windows 2008 SP1 R2 Enterprise edition. Unfortunately, that patch does not apply.

I do notice a MS KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2494016/en-us

But I am reluctant to install this until I hear from VEEAM support about the issue. The problem also is that that stop error does not display...so who knows how it would apply.

Do you see any related messages in the host's event log? Do you have a separate network for backups or VMs data is transferred over the cluster network? Are you using hardware or software provider?

We have separate networks in our cluster for pretty much everything. We are using software provider. Like I said, this has just started happening. I'm still waiting to hear from VEEAM support from a ticket I opened yesterday...maybe they can shed some light on this. There are no logs thast indicate any errors.

What Veeam B&R version are you using? There was an issue with v6.5 and Windows 2008 where the volume could "fall out" of the cluster if the backup was performed at the moment when the volume was in Redirected Access mode. Could you please check that the volume is connected to the corresponding cluster node at the moment of backup?

I will verify Thursday night when I perform some testing. If this is the case, is there a documented solution?

If this is the case, the solution would be to upgrade to v7, I suppose.
